Manual Tangem ring
Preparing for the installation process
Now that you have your Tangem Ring, how do you set it up? First, make sure you have a compatible smartphone with the Tangem app.
Compatible smartphones
To use the Tangem Ring, your smartphone must support full NFC functionality. For iOS users, this means devices running iOS 14.5 or later, starting with the iPhone 8 and later. Models such as the iPhone 7 and iPhone SE (first generation) do not fully support NFC and cannot transmit the information necessary to activate the wallet. Newer iPhones (8 and later) are fully compatible.
For Android devices, the phone must be running Android 6.0 or later with full NFC support. Many Android phones meet this requirement, but some models may lack the full NFC functionality required for activation. Common compatible brands include Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, Sony Xperia, and Motorola, as long as the models have NFC functionality enabled.
If a device does not fully support NFC, you can back up to a compatible phone and then continue to use the original phone for other operations. It is important to check the NFC capabilities of specific models from manufacturers to ensure compatibility.
Tangem mobile app
You can download the Tangem app for both iOS and Android devices. For iOS users, it is available in the Apple App Store and requires iOS 15.0 or later. You can find the app by searching "Tangem" directly in the App Store.
For Android users, the Tangem app is available on the Google Play Store for devices that support NFC. If you need or prefer to use an APK file, you can download it from GitHub and manually install it on your phone.
Both versions of the app support multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Ukrainian, German and more, making them accessible to a global audience.
Setting up the Tangem Ring
Here's how to set up the Tangem Ring with or without a seed phrase.
- Open the Tangem app and tap "Scan Tangem"
- Remove the ring from your finger and hold it close to the NFC antenna of your smartphone.
- To set up the ring without a seed phrase, tap “Create wallet”.
- Select “Other options” to set up your ring with a seed phrase or to import a wallet into the ring with a seed phrase.
When you tap the "Create Wallet" button, the Tangem Ring will generate your private key within its secure chip. This private key cannot be extracted, stolen or disclosed by anyone, not even Tangem.
Now you need to make backups; we strongly recommend doing this immediately.
- Tap “Add a card or ring” and scan a Tangem card from the box.
- Tap the “Add a card or ring” button again and scan the second Tangem card.
- Select "Finalize backup" to complete the backup procedure.
Now you need an access code to protect your Tangem Ring from unauthorized access by third parties.
- Tap “Create” and enter a passcode.
- Choose a word, phrase or numbers you want. You can also set a unique passcode for each device later. Select "Continue".
- Re-enter your passcode and tap “Submit”.
Now you need to complete the backup procedure.
- Tap "Scan Ring" and hold the ring close to your phone's NFC antenna. Hold the ring steady for the 15 second countdown.
- Select "Scan card" and repeat the process with the first backup card. Pay attention to the card number.
- Tap “Scan card” and repeat the process with the second backup card.
Allow the Tangem app to use biometric authentication, such as Face ID, for faster access to your wallet.
- Save your wallet and you will have Bitcoin and Ethereum added to your wallet by default, but you can add more assets now or later.
After selecting more assets, enter your access code and scan your Tangem.
- Tap "Continue to my wallet".
You have successfully set up your Tangem Ring, and we hope you have lots of fun with it.
