Process

Watch our video tutorial to learn how to set up your brand new Trezor Safe 3. Read on to learn more.

  1. Trezor Suite will prompt you to connect your device.
You will also be given the option to share anonymous data or not — this is optional, but helps us fix bugs and improve performance. We recommend enabling this option.

  2. Check the security of your device.
Once your device is connected, you will be prompted to perform a quick safety check. Check that the packaging is intact and that the holographic seal is not damaged.

Important: If you notice any signs of tampering, do not use the device! Contact customer service via our chatbot Hal; we will do our best to arrange a replacement device.

  3. Once you are sure everything is in order, click 'Set up my Trezor'.

  4. Installing firmware.
Your Trezor comes without firmware. The first step is to install the latest firmware by simply clicking the 'Install Firmware' button.

When the firmware installation is complete, click 'Continue'.

  5. Check your device.
You will now see the 'Let's check your device' screen; this is an important step to confirm that your Trezor Safe 3 is authentic and safe. Click 'Start' to begin.

Your Trezor will show the 'Authenticate Device' screen; press 'Allow' (right button) to continue.

  6. Learn to use your Trezor.
Suite displays the 'Get to know your Trezor' screen, which will help you get familiar with using your new device. Follow the instructions on your Trezor, then click 'Continue'.

  7. Create a new wallet.
When setting up your Trezor for the first time, select 'Create new wallet'.

    • You can only choose the 'Recover Wallet' option if you already have a recovery seed that allows you to restore access to existing accounts.
  8. Select the backup method.
Choose between 'Standard seed backup' or 'Advanced Shamir backup'. Here we explain the standard method.

Confirm the action on your device and agree to the terms before continuing. Click on 'Create Wallet' (right button).

  9. Make a backup.
This means that you write down your recovery seed on the recovery cards that come with it. Click 'Backup' to get started.

    • Your Trezor will ask you to confirm that you understand that you may not make digital copies of your recovery phrase. Press both buttons to agree.

    • Your device will show a list of 12 words (default length for Trezor Safe 3 recovery phrase). Please write these words down carefully and in the correct order on your recovery card.

    • Confirm that you have written down all 12 words correctly by selecting the requested words on your Trezor. Once this process is complete, you will see the message 'You have verified your recovery phrase' and you can continue.

  10. Set a PIN code.
In the 'Backup completed' window, click 'Continue to PIN code'.

    • A strong PIN protects your Trezor from unauthorized physical access. Choose a PIN of at least 4 digits (maximum 50).

    • Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your PIN code directly into the Trezor Safe 3.

    • Once your PIN is set, you will see the message 'PIN protection enabled'. Click 'Continue'.

  11. Activate your coins.
In the 'Activate Coins' window, you can specify which cryptocurrencies will be displayed in Trezor Suite. You can always change this later. Click 'Finish setup' once you are happy with your choice.

  12. Personalize your Trezor.
For a personal touch, you can choose a name for your Trezor and even customize the wallpaper. Confirm these changes on your device. Then click 'Open Suite' to get started.

That's all!
Your Trezor is now ready to use!
